Lately I do three things: Work, Family & everything that goes with that, and home improvement. Mostly the house is good to go. In fact, when we bought it in December it was turn-key. All the work had to be done outside. The place had been empty for almost 2 years and the abundant yard was showing it. Not long after we moved in I started with all the things I needed to do as well as wanted to do. I have learned 2 things along the way. One: You can do almost anything if you put your mind to it and Two: Most DIY websites don’t have a really good explanation of whats going on in their projects – leaving you to put a lot of the missing pieces together on your own.

I always think, “Someone should put up an article with better pictures or more detailed explanation.” Well, I am going to start putting up my own how to’s or DIY articles that revolve around projects I have done or want to do. I don’t think I can do a better DIY article than the other sites, but I think I can help others fill in the gaps that are left by the DIY television shows and free articles online.

I’ll start with a dry field stone wall or planter. Stay tuned.

After nearly a month I have returned to the world wide web. Verizon had a few hickups getting me connected to the world but finally after about every problem that could come up they got me hooked up.

I have a few things to mention if you don’t follow my life via twitter or get regular phone calls from me. Life has changed drastically for the Woolseys in the last month or so. You know we had a baby coming and she has arrived! She came on December 23rd at 11:39am. She was born 7lbs 5oz and howling at the sudden thrust into this world. She has since become a very alert little one and is threatening to start sleeping 5 to 6 hours per night.

The other major change that occurred in the month of December was the purchase of another house. This one caught me somewhat off guard because I figured we would stay at our old house for quite some time. But a few things fell into place and after a lot of prayer and some sweat we found ourselves moving to a new home. We still live in Murrieta, in fact we didn’t really move far at all. We got an extra bedroom, a bigger garage and much more space to spread out in the back yard.

So all in all, December has been quite a month. I am working to catch up on the pictures of Casey as well as a few shots of the house. We take pictures of Casey every day, the house on the other hand hasn’t been photgraphed since we moved in. I will take a few pictures of home-sweet-home and get them up for everyone to check out.

Today I got a great start on the hungarian bookshelvs in my office. I found an article on instructables.com describing how to make them and they seemed so easy and cheap how could I not do it? The parts came together quickly and the total cost of the job was $75 and that includes a quart of stain to finish it off. In the final picture above I have a few things sitting on them so I could take it in. It will all come back down for the surface prep and stain in the next day or two. Once its back together all I will need to add is the shims that the instructions call for in the final step.

If you think you want to build your own ‘hungarian shelves’ then visit the Instructables tutorial, How to Make and Install Hungarian Shelves to get the low down. Its an easy project and looks pretty pro when its done.
