Where Are My Keys!?

February 12th, 2008 John Posted in Blogging, Questions 2 Comments »

I drove to Taco Bell tonight before staff meeting at 6:30pm. I had my keys then, I let the dog out of the truck and I came in and ate. We had staff meeting and at the end we went out to visit for a while and that is when I couldn’t find them. So, they are somewhere in my house, I came home with them from Taco Bell and haven’t left with them again since. I hate this, it stresses me out and I be a mess until I find them. I know that Skip feels my pain, he is probably running for a paper bag to breathe in about now…

UPDATE: OK, I found them and now everything is right in my world again…

Lessons | God Uses Computers!

November 8th, 2007 John Posted in Faith, Ministry, Questions, Spirituality No Comments »

In case you were thinking my title is a joke, its not. Today was the big computer day for me. I have been putting off the restore on my Dell XPS since the day I got it and at the same time a girl I have had working with me at Impact needed a reformat even worse.

Nice and Clean

So, I offered to set her up and get her computer all cleaned up. So while my computer was being rid of the all the factory installed ‘bloat-ware’ I was doing an even more needed clean up on her computer. Her computer had been infected with everything from Trojan horses to worms and the result was an unending stream of pop up adds and fake system warnings and the occasional pornographic image. She has been putting up with it for so long she has forgotten what it is like to have a computer that is free of those problems. So I was going through the computer, helping her back up the stuff she needed; I began to take the software axe to the roots and I realized that in a way, this is what my job is!

Opportunities | Which Ones Should We Be Looking For?

November 4th, 2007 John Posted in Faith, Questions, Spirituality 2 Comments »

Christians: sitting across a table from your co-worker during your lunch in the break room have you ever asked yourself, ‘when will I get a chance to tell her about Jesus?’ Maybe you have never asked yourself that question or maybe not in that way. Maybe another way to say it is have you ever felt like you have stopped to talk to someone with the hope that you can share your faith with them? Even better, that you will so beautifully tell them about the good news of Jesus that they will fall down on their knees, repent of all there sin and give themselves fully to Christ!? If you are a Christian, you most likely can relate to that question.

So this whole discussion was started today after church when a friend told me a story about his trip to Las Vegas for work. He met up with a client of his company who he has had lots of talks with. This client is in a terminally ill marriage and has been separated from his wife for over a year. He lives a pretty crazy life and usually takes advantage of his time in Vegas to indulge in ALL of its many activities. He had a chance to spend some time with his client and talk to him about his woes. He talked to him about his marriage and his exploits when he is away from home. My friend told me that later he felt like he had missed an opportunity to say something or to share something with him about being a Christian or believing in God. As I sat with him and thought about that comment I thought about how many other Christian friends I have heard over the years talk about opportunities and windows to bring up their faith. I thought to myself, when did we join a multi-level marketing business?

Question | What Would You Do?

October 30th, 2007 John Posted in Faith, Questions, Social Issue, Spirituality No Comments »

I have a wide variety of blogs that I keep up with. They range from the blog over at Popular Science to God’s Politics. This morning I spotted this interesting post by Corey at The Jesus Manifesto:

Then I looked at the girl who was waiting expectantly beside me. It wasn’t the girl who I was supposed to pick up. It took me a moment to realize what was happening, but when I did, I was kind of at a loss for words.

Go read this post, Corey asks a great question to think over - and for the record, I don’t have an answer for myself…
