It rained today. Only for about 15 minutes but during that time the storm dumped a TON of water. It haled too, really big hale. The tarp top over my side yard parking had to come down or it would have torn for sure. Also, I just seeded my back yard yesterday afternoon and I was a little concerned about how well the fresh soil would take to 2 inches of water standing on the lawn bed.

Check out some pictures of some of the flooding in the greenbelt near my house.

News | Google Is Going to Upset the Mobile Industry

MSNBC is reporting that Google has announced its intentions on the mobile phone market. Its not exactly what I was expecting but I think its going to turn the user experience on its head for people like me. I currently use a T-Mobile Dash (HTC Excalibur) for my daily mobile needs.

Confirming its long-rumored foray into the mobile market, Google said Monday it is developing a free cell phone software package so the Internet search leader can more easily peddle ads and services to people who are not in front of a PC.

Fires | The End is in Sight

The winds are changing in San Diego County and that means that the firestorms are being downgraded to fires. As the Santa Anna winds die down we are seeing more of an on-shore breeze which unfortunately has turned our little oasis of clean air here into a smoky, ashy mess. Its good though because that means that the fires are being turned back on themselves and that they will have no more fuel to burn. The fire of course took its toll on a lot of people

A note about what I have been seeing on CNN: I have been seeing comment after comment from viewers and reporters saying that the level of care at Qualcomm stadium is so much better than the care following the events after Katrina for those residents. People are suggesting that because San Diego is full of ‘rich, white Republicans’ they are receiving a much higher level of care. If you are an evacuee at Qualcomm you might be kind of stuck camping out but there are nurses from the community volunteering their time, there are people that can’t go to work so they are hanging out distributing food. There are even local bands and entertainers there that are volunteering their time to keep kids entertained. All of this being said it should be noted that most of what is happening at Qualcomm has nothing to do with federal aid, it has to do with local organizations being organized and well staffed with local volunteers. Many of the volunteers are people that have been evacuated themselves.

So just for the record, San Diego is a motivated town and they are working hard to help their own community…Stay Classy San Diego!

Fires | What Is Going On?

October 24th, 2007 John Posted in Family, News No Comments »

Yesterday was a little exciting around the Woolsey house. My parents called at 8am saying that they had gotten the call to evacuate and they were told to go north - which means they were coming to our house. That is 3 people, a dog and a cat… incoming. Oh and did I mention that Christy’s oldest brother lives next door to my parents and they have 6 kids and 8 puppies. They were planning on coming up too. Around that time I spoke to a friend who was talking about parking his RV’s at his wife’s hotel for extra lodging. So I called around and suggested to a few people that we start opening homes and found out that people were already working to get a network started. For now, we are hosting www.socalrefugees.com as a forum to offer shelter or to find shelter. If you know of someone that needs to get out of San Diego and doesn’t know where to go please direct them to this site.

My parents wound up here for the night, Christy’s brother and family did not. So at least everyone had a bed here last night. I will post some pictures later of some of the carnage.
