Off the Trail for a Few Days

Bent Seat rails
So I will be off the trail for a few days, or at least until I can get around to getting a new seat for my bike.  The last time I rode we were going down Superman in Murrieta.  The very last bit of this trail is a fun little fly-away which I didn’t even fly that far away on.  When I came down I must have hit the seat and it buckled under my weight.  I have to admit, this is not the first time I have done this to a bike seat.  When you are my size, you are just hard on your gear.  Even stranger is that I didn’t notice the hit until after I got back on and the seat felt wrong.

I hope this is a warranty thing, the last seat I bent was covered.  I will find out hopefully this week if I have time to get to the bike shop.

Mountain bikers tend to seek out technical terrain and look for challenges on the trail. Well, I think these guys have brought that to a new level!

Ride | Glorious Trail

San Juan TrailYesterday I managed to set aside a few hours to head up into the mountains to the Northwest of Murrieta with Vince, Nick and Donny. They are the mountains that separate our town from the Orange County. Just take the Ortega Highway west out of Lake Elsinore and you will get there. We found a few fantastic trails on GeoLadders that we used to find our way up there. The one we took yesterday was the San Juan Trail. We went down only so we used my truck to get to the trail head and Nick’s truck was at the bottom. It did take longer than I would have liked but it will make for a great Saturday morning ride with all the guys.

If you want to check out the Google Earth file I made click here and open the file with Google Earth. Make sure when you open Google Earth that the Time Line range is wide open.

Pictures | A Noteworthy Discovery

I have been making it a point to be more aware of my camera phone. I went a long time without one so I got out of the habit of using it but that has changed and I am going to justify its presence.

Big Bike jump

I went for a short bike ride around my neighborhood just to go find something to jump off of and the biggest jump nearby had a bunch of kids playing on it. So I hit it when my chance came and it made me ‘cool’ enough to say hi to. They asked me if I had seen the jumps on the other side of the street. I hadn’t so they took me over there and introduced me to the most amazing sight I have seen all week. Pictured above is the first drop in of a series of about 6 layers of serious bike jumps. The kind that give mom’s heart attacks. Click on the picture to see a few more shots of this little bike park.

Yeah! I used my camera phone…enjoy!

Sunday | It Just Keeps Going

October 7th, 2007 John Posted in Family, Mountain Biking, Recreation No Comments »

Days like today are particularly long for me.  Not because its Sunday and we had church today or because of anything else.  Its just long today because I am coming down with something in my sinus region.  Bound to be fun…

So, after explaing myself above - a quick update:it was my Dad’s birthday while I was gone at staff retreat and so we are going down to have dinner with them today.  Also, my mountain bike is on the road to recovery.  They got the new frame in and D.B. did sent them the wrong bottom bracket.  After realizing the error they put one right in the mail.  The mechanic here in town is off until  Thursday so I am still riding the Trek until at least this coming weekend.  I suspect I will be sick for the next couple days and may not be in the posting mood.  See you when the storm blows over.
