Unless you know much about water skiing you don’t know who this guy was. Even if you do know a thing or two about water skiing you might not know who he is. He held a World Water Skiing Champion title in Tricks in 1965. His time is more recent than my old boat, but its not too far off and ‘Eugenia’ was in running condition when Ken won his championship. Also, because this video has footage in Long Beach where this boat spent most of its life I wanted to post it here. Hold on until about 4:30 minutes and you will be treated to a neat trick.

I added a page to the Boat Blog to keep the juices flowing and Google paying attention.  When I collected all the paperwork for the boat it included a very detailed journal or log of the boat’s usage over the years.  There were also a handful of pictures from its glory days.  I have included the pictures in the Photo Album as well in the new page, For the Record.  Take a look, they are fun.

Got home this morning around 10:30 and there was a delivery truck sitting in front of my house. It was the truck carrying my transmission. We got it unloaded and I took some pictures and a video of it. It looks like its in great condition. Pressure washed at least. The thing turns smooth and doesn’t make any noise for what that is worth. The shifter has positive feedback when operated by hand but its also smooth. I think we have a winner. Now, just to satisfy my curiosity, what year is this thing?

See a few more pictures of it in the photo album.

We Have a Transmission

velvet drive transmissionI have finally aquired a transmission for the boat. We have been looking on eBay for a long time trying to figure out what our best deal will be. Turns out they just aren’t cheap but I found this one with mounts and an oil cooler in Des Moines, WA for a steal. Too bad shipping is going to take away from the steal. I figure when the boat is done I will be glad that I have a modern transmission in there and I won’t really miss the extra couple hundred dollars it cost to ship this thing (gulp!).

Sorry updates have been slow coming, but the boat has been slow coming. Keep an eye on the RSS so you will know when the project gets into overdrive!
