A New Name

I changed the name of the blog to suit the name of the boat.  We landed on a name over the winter but with the new house and the new little girl any progress that was being made on the boat came to a hault.  But, there are a couple of developments that I hope will launch a revitalization of this project!

First - the name.  We wanted a name that wasn’t a joke but also wasn’t too cliche.  We chose my maternal grandmother’s middle name.  She always hated and made everyone promise that no children would be given that name.  She never figured one of her grandkids would name a boat after her though so no forced promises.

Second - with the new house, new kid and new job came a new setting.  We are still in the same town but the new house has lots of room to work on Merceda.  Before, my only chance of working on it was to drive 30 miles to my parent’s home.  Needless to say, not much got done.  The new home has RV access on the side with plenty of room for an 11′ x 30′ shade structure.  Power is available and it will soon be the new home for this project.

Lastly, I am continuing to develop ideas and plans for how this boat will function and look.  Lots of idea and I will post them as soon as I have the sketches computerized.

Ken White

Unless you know much about water skiing you don’t know who this guy was. Even if you do know a thing or two about water skiing you might not know who he is. He held a World Water Skiing Champion title in Tricks in 1965. His time is more recent than my old boat, but its not too far off and ‘Eugenia’ was in running condition when Ken won his championship. Also, because this video has footage in Long Beach where this boat spent most of its life I wanted to post it here. Hold on until about 4:30 minutes and you will be treated to a neat trick.

A Little History

I added a page to the Boat Blog to keep the juices flowing and Google paying attention.  When I collected all the paperwork for the boat it included a very detailed journal or log of the boat’s usage over the years.  There were also a handful of pictures from its glory days.  I have included the pictures in the Photo Album as well in the new page, For the Record.  Take a look, they are fun.

My Velvet Drive has Arrived

Got home this morning around 10:30 and there was a delivery truck sitting in front of my house. It was the truck carrying my transmission. We got it unloaded and I took some pictures and a video of it. It looks like its in great condition. Pressure washed at least. The thing turns smooth and doesn’t make any noise for what that is worth. The shifter has positive feedback when operated by hand but its also smooth. I think we have a winner. Now, just to satisfy my curiosity, what year is this thing?

See a few more pictures of it in the photo album.
