For 2008 we have set ourselves to the task of joining our community in a more deliberate & relevant way. We have always had a vision for reaching this community in a new way but it wasn’t until after we went to a conference at The Grove Church in Riverside that we found ourselves inspired.
We want to see Impact Church make a deliberate change in its approach to our community. We have never quite bought into the alternative church events that many churches do for their families, i.e. Halloween Harvest Festivals. But we haven’t done much to break out of the mold either. Our goal is to come along side the city and community and serve them in any way we can. We have a copy of the city calendar marked on our church event calendar and we intend to reallocate the resources we would use for our events and invest them in city events. Instead of gathering people, money and materials to hold events at Impact Church that will be obscure and only be attended by people that attend Impact Church we will invest people, money and materials into community events. The city plans everything from block parties to car shows and they need people to help them pull it off. We hope that the day comes that when they plan an event they can count on Impact Church being there to provide whatever we can every time.
So what is your church doing to get close to its community? Consider what your city is up to and find out how you can get involved. You might find a much bigger impact can be had if you find the people where they are.
